The Perfect Thanksgiving!

Looking for the perfect Thanksgiving? No dirty dishes, no burnt turkey, no family drama – just a celebration that lasts 4 days filled with abundant, delicious food, drinks and fun? That was my 2022 Thanksgiving.

Sailing out of San Francisco Bay at night.

This year, MarLyn and I celebrated Thanksgiving on the Royal Princess. With a group of 20 family and friends we cruised 4 days round-trip from San Francisco to Ensenada.

Some of the group that rode up with us.
Margaritas invented in Bar Andaluz, Ensenada, Mexico! It’s now a
museum. Well worth visiting during your stop!

Right from the moment we boarded we felt the stress of holiday preparations dissipate as we sipped our cocktails on deck admiring the beautiful San Francisco skyline. The slight shudder of engines began, letting us know that we were on our way. The salty air was refreshing and though the fog was rolling in, we sat breathless as we cruised under the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. That alone was worth the entire trip. It is a breathtaking sight that will always be remembered.

Our mini suite cabin was outstanding. Luckily we signed up early and got the best mid ship location with the best pricing. Our cabin became party central thanks to our full “in suite” bar, large deck and complimentary hors d’oeurves! Our door was always open and our cabin full!

Every morning we started our day with a fancy breakfast, including eggs benedict and champagne mimosas followed by a short guilt-ridden walk on deck. We weren’t quite as ambitious as some of the others in our group who took advantage of the gym and fitness classes, including Tai Chi! Two pools on board gave us the options we needed. Those with kids enjoyed the main pool, while us old folks went to the Sanctuary, adults only pool.

Each night at dinner we assembled in the dining hall to share the day’s activities. One in our group raved about her magical massage, while another boasted of her bargain jewelry shopping and yet another lovely couple with us attended the art auction and purchased several pieces. So while enjoying a sumptuous meal we had much to share.

After dinner there was dancing, a theatre show or music in one of the many lounges. I didn’t dance but sure enjoyed watching the others!

I especially loved Ensenada. It was our only stop on this short cruise. I hadn’t been there in quite a while and was amazed at how much the city had changed. I stopped at the museum this time and learned about how the Margarita was invented at that very spot (according to local folklore). It’s definitely a “must see”! Several in our group took excursions in outlying areas. MarLyn relaxed onboard with her book while I joined the group headed for Ensenada. A few of the ladies went shopping down the main street hunting for bargains.

Surrounded by family and friends, this was the perfect way to celebrate Thanksgiving. I am so grateful!

Next year we plan on going again. If you would like to join in the sailing is a 5 day cruise with stops in San Diego and Ensenada, Mexico.
